About us
Schram Shipping has a hands-on mentality, both its captain-owner Gerrit Schram and his crew. Direct communication, reliability and a personal approach are of paramount importance. As an accredited training company, we train future maritime professionals. In addition, innovation and sustainability of shipping are important to our company.
MV Anna
With the MV Anna, Schram Shipping specializes in the transport of goods such as grain, fertilizer and sand across the North Sea and the Mediterranean. MV Anna is a general cargo ship with a loading capacity of 5,000 mt. We sail with a Dutch man/woman crew as much as possible. The crew of MV Anna consists of seven people: captain, helmswoman, maritime officer, two trainees, a Filipino sailor and a cook.
MV Vertom Joy
In 2021, Schram Shipping and Vertom purchased a second and larger general cargo ship, which has a loading capacity of 10,500 mt. Schram Shipping rebuilt the entire ship, which will sail intercontinental freight transports between Europe and America as MV Vertom Joy from 2023. The Vertom Joy has a permanent crew of nine people, which, like the MV Anna, consists of a largely Dutch male/female crew.
Independent with partners
Schram Shipping enters into long-term relationships. This applies to the male/female crews on our two ships, but also partnerships with other companies.
Since 2004, we have been working with charterer Vertom, who strengthened the relationships ten years later as a co-investor in the MV Anna. The joint purchase of the MV Vertom Joy confirmed a future of sustainable partnership in which we now also work together with Vertom's affiliated charterers Vertraco and ECL.
In addition to solid partnership, Schram Shipping also values independence. The partnerships have their own responsibilities and tasks. Schram Shipping is responsible for the male/female crew, loading and unloading, sailing of the transports and technical maintenance of the ships.
Innovative
To reduce CO2 emissions, the MV Anna was one of the first Dutch general cargo ships to be equipped with innovative VentiFoils in 2022. These are innovative 'sails' that resemble aircraft wings. They generate thrust, which significantly reduces use of fossil fuel.
On the MV Vertom Joy, we are innovating with hybrid diesel/electric/wind solutions that are future-proof. Thanks to our brand new diesel-electric propulsion engine, the Vertom Joy has become an example of more environmentally friendly shipping with significantly greater fuel efficiency and therefore lower CO2 emissions. This allows the Vertom Joy to sail in and out of ports on electric propulsion, which contributes to a cleaner environment in port cities.
